Open Heart Surgery Ward (Cardiac Surgery Ward) of Shiraz Central Hospital started to offer its services at the beginning of 2001. In general, when heart operation is done the patient will be transferred to ICU for special & intensive care for 48 hours. When the patient comes to his/her senses and be able to walk & eat, he/she will be transferred to Post ICU Ward. However, in case of any necessity and/or according to doctor's diagnosis, patient will stay at Cardiac ICU ward as long as it is needed. It is mentionable that more than 10,000 open heart surgeries have been done at this hospital up to the beginning of 2014.

Different heart surgery operations are done at this hospital as follows:

-Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)

-Cardiac Valve Repair or Replacement

-Cardiac Off Pump Surgery

-Minimally Invasive Direct Coronary Artery Bypass (MIDCAB)


This ward enjoys the most modern & up-to-date instruments & facilities such as:

-Electrical & automatic beds with remote control.

-All beds are equipped with advanced Heart Monitoring & Ventilators.

-Blood Gas System particularly for Cardiac ICU Ward use.

-IABP (Intra Aortic Balloon Pump)

-Portable Radiology particularly for Cardiac ICU Ward use.


Moreover, a resident anesthesiologist will attend at the ward in each shift and the most experienced nurses who have already passed special training for Cardiac Surgery ICU Cares are cooperating with this ward 24 hours a day.
